From the Preface:
Within my lifetime priests have gone from regularly preaching sermons on the four last things – what were called “Hell, Fire and Damnation” sermons – to barely mentioning the subjects. I guess this is from a reaction against the accusation they were making people attend church from fear. The result has been that there is a large amount of ignorance among Catholics about them. Or perhaps I should say, lack of thought. If this booklet helps in any way, then it has served its purpose.
One thing I should make clear is the doctrines of heaven, hell, and the resurrection of the body are common to all Christian denominations and well-defined. What are contained in this booklet are my interpretation and explanation of these subjects.
